Press release: Amongst all Women Painting/Poetry Exhibition

The Fine Arts Department of Georgia Perimeter College in association with the Rio Piedras Campus Cultural Promotion Program of the University of Puerto Rico will be presenting the opening of the Painting and Poetry exhibition “Amongst All Women”, by the painter Alexander Rosado and the poet Eric Landron, both from Puerto Rico.

The exhibition opening will be held at the Clarkston Campus Fine Arts Building Gallery on Thursday August 23, 2007 at 5:30 pm and the exhibition will remain open to the public till the last week of September. The show presents sixteen feminine faces in various emotional and psychological states (reflecting also on the human condition) and a self-portrait of the artist, with the opening also including a dual language recital performance. The “Pintuverse” medium claims the fusion of visual poetry with written poetry. In this sense, the poet becomes a ventriloquist of the painting, singing to the image of the colors and to the suggestive metaphor summoned by the paintbrush. In this occasion the central theme is the feminine, the woman, her dreams, beauties, myths, moods, strengths, and characteristics, in addition to her indisputable permanence in the life of humanity. The theme is irremediably seasoned by the “masculine” filter of experience of both the painter and the poet – “amongst women” – and in this case the song is sung from the masculine to the feminine but it is also a song sung to humanity.

University of Puerto Rico professor and art critic J. A. Perez Ruiz comments on Alexander’s work with the following, taken from his essay:
“From his non-objective discourse a speculative flow emanates that links with the faces of clear realist accents that seem to emerge from the depths. In his case the dialectic play between figurative and subjective bestow his communication with the special power of the innovative. We should indicate that this duality, although not lacking in reciprocal tensions, permits the represented faces to maintain subtle gestures or expressions that indicate they are being assisted by complementary forces that exclude the impetuous and provide an audience to the rational…
…If something can be inferred from the protagonists in the paintings of Alexander it is the philosophical vision of life, since indicative tendencies warn us that once those streaks of lightning carry out their assignment they will return to integrate with nomadic space with the goal of guaranteeing other existential cycles…
…In a certain way the lineal tangles that precede every effigy, bring to the consideration of the observer asymmetric images that bring us closer to experienced realities. We find in the women of Alexander a peace that jolts all the positive elements of their faces…”

Alexander Rosado is a Puerto Rican painter born in 1960. He has exhibited in various solo shows, reaping innumerable praise from critics and artists, and many collective expositions including shows in Puerto Rico, New York, Miami, Denver, Brazil, and the Dominican Republic. His clean and abundant style, sparkling and deep, suggestive and accurate, unique and original, make him one of the experimental painters of greater transcendence in Puerto Rico.

Eric Landron is a Puerto Rican poet born in 1953. His esthetics is the ethic of the fusion of all art media and in their use for the rehabilitation, redemption and healing of personal and social ills. He has written and published various books and hundreds of journalistic columns.

You’ll see
what you want to see,
An elastic root alluring us to dance
till dawn
wrapped around emotions waist,
An inoffensive spiders web
where we fall flat on our faces
to become ecstatic,
A serene commotion
arousing us, coolly,
A restless and resolved anthill
of fantasy with pure color and sentiment,
A swarm of fireflies
signally the route of true honey,
A swamp of stars
where the universe finds forever
its atom of breath,
A precipice of light
summoning us to burst
inuring intimate and original beings,
An astonishing net
where the caterpillar is already a butterfly,
A plate of wires
that filters the sun and dreams
by an act of magic,
A nest of phosphorescent straw and branches
for our inescapable flights
towards our core,
An applause of God
in the palm of human happiness,
An invincible woman,
an everyday woman, and for that, supreme,
that teaches us to be men
with brushstrokes of lightning.

Silver Eclipse

From an eclipse
Improbable,
your silver face was born,
your aura in movement
and curled.

The ancient dance of the moon
gave birth to a nest of strings…
a sentiment tied…
an infinite loneliness
in your silver eye.

Thus
like a war outdoors
that moves through the world
armed with a hunch,
of life that grasps
and stays painted with memories unnameable
to the touch of sight
with more eternity
than present and past.

Heart at Random

Randomness is a woman
that touches our forehead
with her warm hand,
hinting, without a fixed course
to a place that exists
but we know not
how to arrive.

Randomness is a woman
that reveals, at times,
how she gets lost in the night
when we least expect
and when we most need.

Randomness is a woman
that resembles a gypsy,
with lips that are fleshy
and kiss us at every quiver,
and speak in our ears with a whisper
for our silence
destined to the sea,

Randomness is a woman
that takes you away, and brings you back,
with a heart like a compass
and a shooting star
in escape
like birth,
like exile
and like justice from above.

Vision of woman...

Gropingly and lucid,
you Learn to relish life
in the palate of the universes.

Gropingly and lucid,
you Recognize the genome
of the continents,
the origin of life,
the imprinted heading
of the painter and his fingerprints.

Gropingly and lucid,
you See better than ever…
where you are from,
from what you come,
and where you return.

Gropingly and lucid,
you Guess and discover
that the eye’s unnecessary
to look beyond
what others guess
and discover.

Gropingly and lucid,
you Shatter all at once
The mask of colors
to uncover
your Vision imperishable
with the brush that transits and transcends
from the foliage of the painting and from Poetry…

Persistence

However much they have tried
to bend your gaze,
exact and pure.

However much they have tried
to fade your prism fate
that radiates the tonalities of life
from the shower of your watering light.

However much they have tried
to erase your roads
that liberate forever
all the springs.

However much they have tried…

However much they have tried…

You gaze,
into the eyes of everyone,
unshakable and outstretched
without a blink for dishonor,
distress,
disbelief,
or delay.

The Nightfall Hydra...

Nightfall,
Watching, hallucinating,
(astonished and dreamy)
towards where the sun sets and leans
hidden in the spell of the horizon.

Nightfall,
Guarding, delirious,
while the sketches of the moon
put make up on emotion
in the detonation of your Face.

Nightfall,
Trapping, fascinating,
the light of the surviving star
that comes to die and live in our world
Gods’ arrow striking
from distant infinites.

Nightfall,
Probing, imposing,
Unfurling to the swaying of the chimeras,
Unfurling to the swaying of loves,
Unfurling to the swaying of joys,
Unfurling to the swaying of life
touching and oscillating.
